BPG was established in 1985 by its founder, Frank L. DeArmond, out of recognizing the need to provide strategic planning to privately-held businesses. It then quickly expanded to address estate related issues on business owners and their key employees. Later the company developed a separate estate planning division to focus on non-business owners who had medium to large estates.

The most recent addition is Retirement Planning Services (RPS), which was created out of recognition for the need to provide strategic planning for people at the time of retirement and post retirement. Typical issues addressed are asset and income preservation, income tax reduction, ways to offset inflation, and strategies for the reduction of taxes on Social Security benefits.
